Fit

Fills the frame, crops the overflow.

1500×500 is a 3:1 band — wide, shallow, and unforgiving of anything with a lot of vertical content. A portrait photograph will lose almost everything above and below the middle third, so headers work best with landscapes, patterns, textures or artwork made for the shape.

The avatar overlaps the bottom-left

Your round profile picture sits partly on top of the header, roughly a fifth of the way in from the left and hanging over the lower edge. On top of that, the display name and bio sit directly beneath. Anything you place in that lower-left region is either covered or crowded.

Rounded corners and dark mode

X rounds the header's corners slightly, so hard edges and full-bleed borders get clipped. Backgrounds that are pure white or pure black also behave oddly across light and dark themes — a mid-tone or a photographic background stays predictable in both.

Frequently asked questions

What is the aspect ratio of an X header?
3:1. 1500×500 is the recommended size; anything with the same ratio scales cleanly.
Why is part of my header hidden?
The profile photo overlaps the lower-left and your name sits below it. Keep important content centred and toward the top.
Does X compress my header?
Yes, it re-encodes uploads. Starting from a clean 1500×500 image gives the compressor less to damage.
